Puzzle Time.....

Hello Frnds !!!!

I have got some puzzles for you -

1- You are given two candles of equal size, which can burn 1 hour each(60 Minutes). You have to measure 90 minutes with these candles. (There is no scale or clock). Also u r given a lighter.

How would you measure 90 minutes???

2-  x^y = y^x and x!=y
(x to the power of y = y to the power of x and x is not equal to y)

what are the values of x and y and how many such values exits???

Post the answers in the comments.... You may think I am asking you simply with out me knowing the answer.. I do knw the answer :) will wait for some time to see whether I get any answers from you people... :)

All The Best :)

  1. 1) First I will light a candle and blow it off when it becomes half of the other candle (i.e. using it to measure for 30 min), then I will light the other (full) candle and wait till it completely burns (60 min). Total 90 min
    2) x^y = y^x
    Apply log on both sides...
    Log x^y = Log y^x
    y Log x = x Log y
    x/y = Log y (base) x
    heehee thoooch... I'll come back to you on the 2nd one...

  3. In that case, how can you tell that the candle takes exactly 60min to burn completely? Depending on the air flow, oxygen supply and candle make, the time taken to completely burn may vary :D
