Born On 3 Dec 1889, he was admitted to Hamilton school. As a boy, he was interested in reading detective novels & loved to play the flute.

On 16 Oct, 1905 , when Bengal was divided by Lord Curzon, it further infuriated the activists. Aurobindo Ghosh & Barin ghosh, along with Raja Subodh Malik together formed a secret revolutionary outfit called the Yugantar.

Khudiram was an active member of the Yugantar outfit in Medinipur. He came to be known in those parts for kidnapping a police officer & escaping after being arrested for disturbing a nationalist propaganda called Sonar Bangla. He also robbed mailbags to accumulate funds for the society’s operations.

In 1907, the British passed “The Black Law”. Under that law, thousands of patriots, publishers and activists were imprisoned. The atrocious judge Kingsford had passed the judgement.

Yugantar decided to kill Kingsford & Khudiram & Prafulla Chaki were chosen to execute him.

On 30 April, 1908, they saw a carriage approaching, thinking it was Kingsford they threw bombs & destroyed it. Alas it was Mrs. & Miss Kennedy and not Kingsford. A massive manhunt followed and while Khudiram was arrested on 1 May, 1908, Prafulla evaded arrest by shooting himself. When the judge announced Khudiram’s execution & asked what was his last wish.

Khudiram said he wished to teach other Indians how to make bombs, as he was the first Indian to throw the bomb.

Khudiram was hanged to death on 11 Aug, 1908. When the British officials saw him walking to the Gallows with a smile they asked him if he was not scared of death. The teenager showed the Geeta Book and said “Read this and you would also attain fearlessness”.
